Getting back to work after an illness or injury is about rebuilding confidence, routines, and a sense of control. At DMI, we know that returning to work while managing a health condition can feel overwhelming. That’s why our Occupational Therapy Program is designed to support employees every step of the way – helping them not just return to work but succeed when they get there.
Whether someone is dealing with brain fog, chronic pain, emotional hurdles, or just can’t seem to find their footing again, our program offers the tools, strategies, and structures to make real progress, without the added stress.
What makes our program different?
We’ve taken the guesswork out of recovery. Our program combines evidence-based therapy with practical life and workplace tools that empower people to move forward with confidence.
Delivered virtually (or in-person for those in Calgary) – so we can meet participants where they are in their recovery journey.
How it works: Step-by-step support
Step 1: A deep-dive assessment
Starting with a comprehensive global assessment to gain a solid understanding of what’s going on. Our initial assessment helps us see the full picture by looking at:
- Cognitive capacity (like memory, planning, and focus)
- Emotional and lifestyle factors that could slow recovery
- A realistic projection of how soon return-to-work is possible
Step 2: Structured Occupational Therapy Sessions
Once we know where to focus, participants enter 4 to 8 structure sessions of targeted occupational therapy that focus on:
- Improving cognitive function
- Setting goals that feel doable and meaningful
- Tracking progress across key executive functions (think: attention span, organization, emotional control)
Step 3: Tools for real life
Because healing doesn’t stop when the session ends, we provide:
- Coping strategies and mental workouts (Yes, cognitive training is a thing!)
- Skill-building homework to build confidence between sessions
- Therapeutic techniques like CBT, DBT, ACT, and Pain Reprocessing to support both emotional and functional recovery
Step 4: Progress reports that make sense
We believe in keeping things clear and collaborative. Our mid-program and final reports give employers and stakeholders a transparent look at:
- Level of participation and engagement
- Measurable improvements
- Remaining challenges and how to manage them
Who should join the program?
Our program is a strong fit for employees who are:
- Struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, or emotional overwhelm
- Dealing with chronic conditions like long COVID, fibromyalgia, or post concussion symptoms
- Having trouble with focus, memory, or staying organized
- Feeling stuck in day-to-day tasks or social interactions
- In need of a confidence boost or exposure therapy to return to their roles
- At risk of extended work absence without structured support
Why Our Structured Occupational Therapy Program Works
This isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach. It’s personalized, practical, and backed by real results. By focusing on individual strengths and empowering people with the right tools, we help them build not just work-readiness but long-term resilience.
Bottom line? People don’t just go back to work – they’re ready to stay there.
